Collage comes from the French word “coller”, meaning “to stick”. It is possible to create very attractive greetings cards by sticking paper shapes together in various ways onto a piece of paper and card. Not only decorative paper is used in collage – why not add in something more unusual like pieces of fabric, felt, torn paper from newspapers or magazines and even used tickets.
Move around the pieces of paper and fabric until you are happy with the balance of colour and their arrangement on the card and then stick down.
You can use our animal pictures to make interesting collage cards. Notice the rag art effect in the centre of the owl that has been made on hessian, then stuck onto the fabric on the card.
Another possibility is to draw your own animals, like these sheep on the card below. Fabric strips, loose wool, mosaic paper shapes and other material have been combined to make an attractive greetings card from The Yorkshire Dales!
